Larviculture and fry production

Contribution in the projecting phase and production planning. Discussion of physical shape, choice of technical solutions, plant dimensioning in fields as semi-extensive larval breeding including copepod production, intensive larval breeding and juvenile fish breeding. Consultancy for production planning i.e. choice of product (species and age), production method, like semi-extensive and intensive larvae production, weaning strategies etc.

Larvae production, live prey and copepods. Fishlab has performed semi-extensive and intensive larvae production for more than 20 years. Semi-extensive larvae production. The work includes production planning, elaboration of production manuals, training of personnel, decision making and execution of productions with field work and lab functions including identification and quantification of zooplankton used as prey of the fish larvae (e.g. various stages of copepods), monitoring and interpretation of abiotic parameters and identification and monitoring of toxic- and non-toxic algae. Fishlab staff has an international IOC certificate on monitoring of toxic algae.

Intensive larvae production. Production planning, training of personnel, elaboration of production manuals, decision making and execution of productions; culturing of algae and prey organisms (rotifers and copepods), hatching and enrichment of Artemia and monitoring the health status of the larvae being part of the production.

Fry production control. Participation in control of plant construction, support with daily procedures. Control with the function of the plant including sampling for analyses. Analysis of water quality/toxic substances (toxic algae, salts i.e. ammonium, nitrite, hydrogen sulfide etc.). Control of sensors, filter efficiency incl. UV-filters, health check, feeding/growth etc.

Management of aquaculture. Consultancy for layout of the daily work, including disease control and production enhancing work routines, health improvement, planning of feeding procedures, hygiene assets, security/alarm systems, vaccination programs, packing and transport.

Contact establishment.  Contact establisment to other companies, institutions etc.

Marine surveys of ichthyoplankton, medusa, mesozooplankton and bottom dwelling animals

Baseline investigations and Environmental Impact Asssessment (EIA). Scoping, field work, lab work, reporting, cross-field conclusions and effect evaluation for fish.

Fish eggs and fish larvae. Monitoring egg and larvae and backtracking to spawning grounds. Microscopic analyses of samples (determination of species, amounts, egg and larvae stages, bio-volume, carbon determinations and data treatment). Quality assessment of species determination using gelelectrophoretic analysis and tissue from adult specimens as reference.

Medusa. Monitoring importance of various species of gelatinous plankton including species determination, quantification, clearance estimates.

Mesozooplankton. Investigation of various kinds of holo- and merozooplankton (copepods, rotifers, larvae of bivalves, polychaetes, crustaceans etc.).

Bottom dwelling animals. Monitoring the fauna of estuaries and lagoons (bivalves, snails, polychaetes, crustaceans, echinoderms etc.).

EU-projects and national projects

Proposal writing within the framework of the European Union. Assistance with pre-applications as well as final applications within the field of marine aquaculture.

Project management and coordination. Administrative coordination, scientific coordination within the field of marine aquaculture, SME contact facilitator.
